Key initial legal and ethical requirements for HOLiFOOD
This deliverable presents the Legal and Ethical Framework for the EU funded project HOLiFOOD. Desk research methodology has been employed to collect and analyse information from primary and secondary sources. The deliverable aims to provide an overview of the legal and ethical considerations that have an impact on the research activities in the HOLiFOOD project and the overall functioning of the HOLiFOOD platform.
The deliverable explores fundamental rights and their significance in the context of the project. Thereafter, the deliverable focuses on the processing of personal data and the steps implemented in the project to ensure compliance with the GDPR. A key feature of this deliverable is the description of informed consent. To facilitate GDPR compliance, an informed consent form template has been provided by UNIVIE. This form shall be used for the involvement of external stakeholders (added as Annex B). The data protection roles and responsibilities within the project are outlined in this document, and the corresponding Joint Controllership Arrangement is enclosed in Annex A.
In addition to the GDPR, this deliverable addresses the European Data Strategy and upcoming EU legislations such as the AI Act. Furthermore, the European Green Deal and the Farm to Fork Strategy are highlighted as HOLiFOOD tools will contribute to this strategy. Combined with the legal framework, the ethical framework describes the principles for ethical research, AI ethics with regard to the development of the AI component and ethical standards for platforms.
