Citizen Science
Citizen Science activities within HOLIFOOD (align with definitions made by the European Citizen Science Association and) operate at two critical points in the project. These involve the demonstration of a validated methodology collection of emerging risk (ER) data and co-production of interpretation and policy development in relation to an environmental and food security threat and the co-production of research questions and messaging in the citizen risk communication activities which has yet to be convincingly demonstrated in the context of emerging food safety risks.
Similarly, HOLiFOOD will use crowd sourcing methods to assess the role of social media as a risk communication mechanism and a method to identify emerging food risks. These activities will be supported by dedicated training and educational material/curricula. Taken together, HOLiFOOD will integrate food safety risk identification with societal translation and knowledge exchange to develop effective European ERI policy, leading to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) in risk analysis from 4 to 7 or 8.
