World Pulses Day 2024

To investigate the safety of legumes, researchers from the EU-funded project HOLiFOOD, will develop new untargeted and targeted methods for the detection of foodborne pathogens in legumes.

The investigation will involve the Wageningen University (Netherland), the Institute of Sciences of Food Production of the National Research Council of Italy and nano-technology world-player IMEC (Netherland).

HOLiFOOD Living Lab #3

The first workshop conducted under the third Living Lab, titled “Novel Digital Infrastructure for Food Safety,” brought stakeholders together to explore solutions for a changing world.

What is being done to fight antimicrobial resistance?

Improper and excessive use of antimicrobials in both human health care and agricultural production domains has accelerated the development of bacterial defences against them and the rise of antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This article explores what European and international organizations are doing to tackle this issue.

Antimicrobial resistance (Q&A)

Antibiotic resistance represents one of the most significant global threats to health and food security in the world today. Overuse and misuse of these life-saving drugs have allowed bacteria to evolve defences against them at an alarming rate. If left unaddressed, antibiotic resistance could lead to a future where common human infections and minor injuries may once again be harder to treat. In this article, we will explore the topic of antibiotic resistance, seeking to understand how and why it occurs, how it impacts humanity, and what measures can slow its rise

HOLiFOOD Living Lab #1

The initial Living Lab Workshop which took place during the Days 2023 by SmartAgriHubs “Emerging risk identification systems” looked at the history of the HOLiFOOD project, introducing the concept of a holistic approach to building a food safety emerging risk system and emphasizing the importance of combining domain knowledge from different fields in food and agriculture with data science knowledge when building such a system.

Climate change, how will it affect how safe your food is?

It’s becoming increasingly difficult to ignore the impact that our actions are having on the planet’s climate. While we grapple with the consequences of our choices as a society, one critical concern that often goes unmentioned is the safety of the food we consume.1 In this article, we will dive into how climate change can disrupt our ability to produce enough safe and nutritious food to feed the growing global population.
